Quan Bao Nguyen
Composer for video game soundtracks
Quan is an aspiring composer with a strong interest in creating video game soundtracks. He had developed a great interest in video games and classical music when he was young. His musical journey began with piano lessons in high school, though he only began to consider music as a serious career during his time in college. Inspired by his music tutor, Nicolas Beecher, and driven by a lifelong passion for video games and their soundtracks, Quan set his sights on becoming a video game composer.
His professional path took shape when he enrolled in the Bachelor of Music program at Victoria University, where he honed his composition skills and learned to use various music production software. While his studies transported him to the world of modern music like Pop, Progressive rock or jazz, he still maintained a strong connection to videogame scores, classical and contemporary classical music. During his studies, he was introduced to Ryan, a game design student at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, through one of his music tutor, Andrew Shields. This connection led to an opportunity to compose music for Ryan’s horror video game project, allowing Quan to gain practical experience in game music composition and develop techniques in both music and sound design.
Quan enjoys experimenting with different styles and instruments to suit the worlds, characters, and emotions within a game. Whether scoring an intense boss battle, a serene village, or a mysterious dungeon, he continually seeks ways to enhance the player’s experience through sound. His work is inspired by many iconic game soundtracks.
One of Quan’s main goals is to blend a classically informed approach to composition with modern technology, producing a wide range of musical styles and immersive soundscapes. He is committed to exploring how music can reflect and enhance human emotion, mood, and narrative within the context of interactive worlds.
